With addition of a new water treatment plant in Airdrie’s south west community of Windsong, the city can now accommodate adequate water for a population of 80,000 residents.

The facility cost $11 million, but the City of Airdrie engineering department is happy that the increased capacity generated by the new plant will serve the municipality for the next 12 to 16 years.

Three years ago, a line was brought up from Calgary to assist with Airdrie’s growth and increased demand.  At this time, city council had just approved annexation for more than 12,000 acres of land from the Municipal District of Rocky View.

The funding for this line and for the new Windsong plant came from levies assessed to land developers in Airdrie. Every new development,

The City of Airdrie has given their stamp of approval on a brand new subdivision.

Lanark Lake was given the green light earlier this month.  Melcor Developments presented its Neighbourhood Structure Plan (NSP) for stage one of Lanark Lake and was approved unanimously.

What’s Planned for Lanark Lake?

Located in the south eastern corner of the city, Lanark Lake will offer home buyers a mix of single-family detached homes and multi-family dwellings.  Nearly 165 acres of land has been set aside for this community, with a total of 1,218 resident dwellings.  According to the NSP, the density will be 7.4 residential dwellings per acre of land.

Plans, of course, call for a lake, plenty of green space and a new school.

The new neighbourhood will be

Nothing dresses a wall like wallpaper.  Designers love it because it adds interest and style to every room of your home.  Wallpaper just might be the quick fix if you’re freshening up your home and preparing it to sell.  Many of today’s contemporary home stylists swear by it.

Invented in the early 1800s and made more popular with the advent of industrialization, wallpaper was a fixture in modern homes until late last century.  With paper’s tired designs and fussy application methods, consumers in the 1990s seemed to tire of it. But with today’s cool designs and neat adhesives wallpaper just might stick around.

What’s Hot

Wallpaper is modern and high tech with bold, fresh colours, interesting textures and contemporary patterns.  Geometric shapes

There’s no finer place to pay tribute to Airdrie’s veterans than Veteran’s Boulevard.

On Saturday, Oct 31 at 11 a.m. Airdrie will remember those who have served, those who are still serving and those who have fallen in the fourth annual ceremony on the median of Veteran’s Boulevard.  The cross erection ritual will take place on the west side of the Main Street junction.

The communities of Sunridge and Stonegate flank each side of this intersection.

Organizers will place 25 crosses, all bearing the name, birthdate, rank and date of death of an Airdrie soldier killed in the line of duty if applicable, on Veteran’s Boulevard.  An honour guard will accompany the crosses, give the salute and raise the flag.

The 25 crosses will remain in place as a

People are still buying homes in Airdrie.

This Alberta city, disguised as a small town, experienced a 30 per cent growth over the four year period 2009 to 2013 and analysts predict that with right conditions, it will see another 75 per cent population surge in the next 10 years or so.

Early indications were than Airdrie could grow to 90,000 people by 2040.  However, new predictions suggest that target could be hit by 2027.

Airdrie city councilors don’t want to discourage growth, because new populations widen the tax base.  But one of the city’s charms is its small town vibe and Airdrie’s key stakeholders would like to keep it that way.  This desire to keep things small and friendly led to council’s development of a new sustainability plan late

A happy home is a comfortable home. If you are going to have a home in Airdrie, it might as well be a comfortable one. Fortunately, there are little things you can do around the home to make it both happy and comfortable.

Add a Stress Free Zone

Make an area of your home that is the place where you go just to turn everything off and stop thinking. This is where you go to unwind and relax. Do yoga, listen to music, or read a book. Maybe you can even take a nap or soak in a hot tub. It needs to be a place where you can just turn your brain off for a while.

Positive Sentimental

You can make your home happy, by making your home sentimental. Fill your home with memories that remind you of the good times in your life. This is going to make you enjoy

Located in a little shopping plaza off Sierra Springs Drive SE, Five Guys doesn’t look like much. However, if you have a hunger for a good burger and great fries, step inside and prepare to be amazed.

When you dine at Five Guys, you should know some things. Primarily, what exactly is the difference between a standard burger and a little one? The answer is easy; the little has one hamburger patty and the regular has two. You get unlimited toppings with your burger, and if you’re feeling adventurous, just tell them that you want to go “all the way.”

This gets you ketchup, mustard, mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, and grilled onions and mushrooms. You can swap any of these out and even get your burger without a bun. It then comes either wrapped in

Empty Bowls was started by a group of high school students back in 1990. They were challenged by their teacher to come up with a way to raise money for a food drive and this is what ultimately became of it. Now Empty Bowls is an event that takes place every year all over the world. Since 2007, the Airdrie Food bank has been putting on the Empty Bowls Arts Festival.

It was such a huge hit with the community that the following year they received funding through Canada Heritage. This of course has made a huge difference and allowed them to do more and more every year with the festival. Each year the number of attendees has gone up and so has the number of bowls sold.

This year, 2015, will mark the 9th year of the annual Empty Bowls Arts Festival.
