There’s a great piece of land across the road from Our Lady Queen of Peace School in Airdrie.  It’s two-and-a-third acres in size and was just the right spot for a housing development.

Habitat for Humanity thought that it was a great spot for affordable housing, however there was some backlash from the community in opposition for the development so the organization found another piece of land elsewhere.

With the need for a housing project such as this in Airdrie, city council was comfortable in approving a request recently to rezone that 2.37-acre spot to accommodate an outdoor skating rink.

The move is an ideal one as the land is also beside the Monklands Soccer fields.

The breakout numbers for the City of Airdrie for May 2016 show that sales were adequate and inventory is up.  Way up.  Statistics on real estate activity in Airdrie is maintained and provided by the Calgary Real Estate Board (CREB®).

There were 147 sales of MLS® listings in May which real estate professionals in the city referred to as “decent”.  These numbers don’t reflect new construction in Airdrie, a segment of the real estate market that continues to grow although more slowly than in the past.

The biggest numbers that came out of May 2016 were the number of active listings in Airdrie.  That number went just over 500, which is the highest number of listings seen in the city since the summer of 2008.  The actual figure is 505 active listings on

Airdrie is a great place to do business. A thriving small business community is part of the attraction of living in Airdrie and the efforts of city entrepreneurs is recognized every year.

The call for nominations for the 19th Airdrie Business Awards is out.  Airdrie residents are invited to nominate a business that is making a difference, enhancing the quality of life in the community.  Local businesses are also welcome to self-nominate.

There are five categories of awards that will be handed out this fall at the annual gala, scheduled to take place Oct. 20 at the Bert Church Theatre.
