Members of municipal council and Airdrie media had a sneak peek at the new facility which should ready to roll by July at the latest.

The crew that will occupy the new fire hall is currently working out of the hall on Main Street which was constructed in 1979.  Emergency responders and ambulances from Alberta Health Services will also move into the hall providing faster service for Airdrie residents on the north side of the city.

A spokesperson for the Airdrie Fire Department says the transition will be smooth with no disruption to what they say is a

Just outside of Airdrie, Andre Gaudraeu is planning and building his tiny house.  The Airdrie Echo recently interviewed him to talk about his project, which is a 25 square metre house that, despite its diminutive dimensions, will have a shower, living room and study and a real kitchen.

Gaudraue is a carpenter and wanted to find a new way to live better and not bigger.

He’s using quality, recycled materials and hopes the experience of building his house and then living in it will change his life.  He’d like to be self-sufficient in the future by growing food and raising chickens.

Others in the Airdrie area are interested in what he’s doing, and after he’s finished his he’d like to help people with their tiny homes.

He is fortunate in that he

Good things to know about your hot water tank

Whoever invented the hot water tank was a genius.  Imagine the hours our great, great grandmothers spent trying to heat kettles of water on the wood stove just to have a bath or wash clothes or dishes.  And imagine the bliss of just opening a tap to have an almost endless stream of luxurious hot water.

Perhaps we take hot water for granted, because we don’t appreciate it truly until something goes wrong with the magical appliance that produces it.  Not only is the hot water gone, but often there is a complete mess to deal with if the tank has blown.

Just like a car, your hot water tank needs regular maintenance so that it performs well and longer.

Every tank has an expiry date

With more than 80 km of pathways and canals winding through the city, Airdrie is a great place in which to embrace winter and to be active outdoors.

It’s important to live in winter, and not just through it.

Just think – so many people in the world have never seen snow. They’ve never made a snowman with friends, never been in a pair of ice skates, never slid down a hill.  We are blessed to live in this part of the world where we can enjoy all four seasons.

In Airdrie, it’s easy to find an outdoor rink, to go cross country skiing through the park or toboggan down a hill.  The highway west to the mountains for downhill skiing is just 10 minutes south of Airdrie.

It’s no secret that on the ground, Airdrie residents are a little tired of what’s going on overhead.  Planes, lots of them, enroute to the Calgary International Airport.  They’re either taking off, or coming in. Regardless, they are making a lot of noise and making life miserable for residents of several Airdrie neighbourhoods.

However, there will soon be fewer planes flying over Airdrie’s friendly skies.

Recently, the Calgary Airport Authority hosted an open house with Nav Canada to discuss the issue with residents and to present proposed flight paths along with some new methods of landing which should greatly reduce the volume of air traffic navigating over the city.

One of the solutions will be new technology within the planes that will allow
