Upcoming Event: Ranch Hand Competition

Posted by Justin Havre on Friday, June 12th, 2015 at 8:38am.

If you’re interested in seeing just how a ranch operates, the Ranch Hand Competition is a great place to check out. You’ll get the chance to see firsthand how cattle are handled as well as some of the skills that the local farmers and ranchers use to work with the animals. The evens that you’ll find taking up a majority of the competition include:

  • Team sorting
  • Trailer loading cattle
  • Team penning
  • Branding
  • Calf scramble for the little ones to enjoy

Local farmers can have a tough job and this competition hopes to show spectators just how hard it can be from one day to the next. However, farmers find their jobs to be rewarding even though it can be hard work and require a lot of labor.

The event showcases locals that compete against each other to see who can perform daily farming activities the best. The event will take place from 1-4:30 at the Airdie Rodeo Grounds. You can enjoy food and drink while you’re here as well and this can be a great experience for children to see what it’s like to work with these animals.

If you decide that you’re interested in being a part of the event you can register early and gather up your team and fill out the registration form. Make sure it’s completed and turned in by July 4th.

This area prides itself in being involved in the community and offering regular events for locals and even out of town visitors to come and enjoy. This makes it easy to experience something often rather than being stuck inside all the time. There are several family-friendly events that you can take part of and you can check out the events page to stay up to date on all the latest happenings in the area.

These events are constructed to help connect the strong community from the rural roots to the urban centre it’s become. Kids enjoy seeing the animals and can learn a sense of the business especially if they decide that agriculture is something they want to pursue when they get older. This event promises fun and excitement for people of all ages!
