Airdrie's Midtown Community Packs Plenty of Wow

A 90-acre development in the City of Airdrie is an absolute urban oasis.  Midtown is a 90-acre project that combines the best parts of inner-city living with the lifestyle benefits of a suburban community.  Walkability, proximity to shopping and dining, open spaces, schools and transit access.  Midtown is urban life in a small-town atmosphere.  The ideal community for the family that doesn’t want to get lost in the hustle and bustle of the big city.

Home Styles in Midtown

The area where Midtown is being developed is on the east side of 8 Street SW between the community of Luxstone Landing south of Iron Horse Park and Railway Gate.  This piece of land is surrounded on all four sides by other neighbourhoods.

This mixed-use community will feature detached homes with either front-drive garages or garages off the back lane.  There will be duplex homes, street-facing town homes (with no condo fees), condo apartments and commercial buildings.   One of the participating builders in Midtown is offering six different floor plans for the two models of semi-detached homes.  The builder is already advertising that their staircases in their home will be the widest in the new construction industry at 4.5 feet across and it’s promising huge kitchen islands in response to consumer demand.  Double-master bedrooms are also a building feature that many builders are incorporating into their floor plans.

The focal point will be a storm water pond covering nine acres.  It will be more like a small lake providing some tranquility.  The architectural guidelines stipulate that homes will be prairie-inspired and above-average in construction.  At complete build-out there will be 600 homes and 80 condominiums in this elegant neighbourhood.

Experience Connection

Imagine leaving your new town home or condo and taking a quick walk to downtown Airdrie in a matter of minutes.  Go shopping, have lunch, dinner or Sunday brunch and afterward, walk home through the park.  In the evenings, you can stroll to your favourite pub and walk home without a care in the world.

It’s amazing how the ability to walk keeps you grounded, connecting you to a sense of place and to others around you.  This is what good urban planning is all about and Midtown is the epitome of the contemporary urban space.

Making a Grand Entrance

Driving from other Airdrie communities or up from Calgary?  You’ll see right off that Midtown is different.  It’s a modern village with a roundabout and a promenade with tree-lined boulevards.  The approach to the community will fill you with anticipation.

On the Street Where You Live

Inviting public spaces have been created in Midtown with ponds and wide, curved sidewalks with benches and gathering spots.  More than sidewalks, the walkways have been created to encourage residents to get outdoors no matter what time of year.

Focal Points

A pond is the central focal point of Midtown, positioned in such a way that many of the homes can look out over it.  The path around the pond and a footbridge is a wonderful aesthetic touch.  There are plenty of playgrounds and active spaces for families to run free.  Bike paths connect with the regional pathway system in Airdrie.  Just south of Midtown is Creekside Crossing, a huge shopping area with a full-service grocery store and services.

Commuting

If you work in Calgary, take advantage of the Intercity Express Service – reliable and convenient just steps outside the Midtown neighbourhood.   Midtown is minutes from the Queen Elizabeth II Highway via 8 Street SW. It connects to Yankee Valley Boulevard which intersects with the freeway.  The Calgary International Airport is only 20 minutes away and downtown Calgary is 30 minutes south.
