4 Great Airdrie Communities to Discover

With a lower tax base and small-town appeal, Airdrie remains a popular place for families to put down roots.   Airdrie is certain to grow in 2017 as the municipality continues to attract new home buyers that are looking for affordability and neighbourhoods that encourage an outdoor lifestyle.  The City of Airdrie is also a welcoming place for entrepreneurs looking to start a business.

Here are just four of the many great communities that fit this profile in this city just 15 minutes north of Calgary.

Bayside:  This neighbourhood in the south west corner of Airdrie is west of 8 St SW and south of Yankee Valley Blvd.  Nearly 2,500 people live in this community comprised of single-family homes and multi-family complexes.  Prices in Bayside start in the low $400,000s with larger homes on wide lots priced in the $700 - $800,000s.   Bayside highlights include:

  • Architectural details in a nautical theme with neighbourly front porches and homes that back onto the city’s scenic canal system.  It makes one think of a village in the Maritimes with all its charm.
  • The 6-km canal system are part of Airdrie’s storm water runoff system.  Residents can paddle a canoe or kayak in the summer through the winding canals in the summer or skate and play hockey on the ice in winter.
  • Shopping at Bayside Village.
  • Children can walk to Nose Creek Elementary School.

Canal’s Landing:  For home buyers who prefer the architecture of the western prairies, Canal’s Landing is a neighbourhood that reflects our western heritage while incorporating elements of modern construction.  Canal’s Landing is west of 8 St SW and south of 1 Ave NW to the east of Sagewood. This neighbourhood is also built along the canal system with pathways and quaint footbridges and preserved prairie grasslands which add to the community’s charm.  Highlights include:

Coopers Crossing:   This community, also on the south end of Airdrie, is one of the city’s most livable neighbourhoods.  It has won awards for being community of the year as voted by residents of the city.  Built on 320 acres with a gentle western slope, the district bears the name of the Cooper family that homesteaded in the area more than 100 years ago.   Coopers Crossing lies north of 40 Ave SW with the CPR tracks on the east and 8 St SW on the west side.  Highlights include:

  • Western views of the rolling foothills and mountains beyond.
  • More than 40 acres of green space with ponds and other water features, pathways and playgrounds.
  • A splash park, skate part and baseball diamonds are nearby at Chinook Park.
  • All home types from condos to attached homes and single-family homes.  Some homes have walkouts.
  • Cooper’s Crossing School, Nose Creek Elementary and St. Martin de Porres High School are within walking distance for students.

Prairie Springs:  This is another wonderful family community, pleasant and affordable located on the west side of the city.  Yankee Valley Blvd is on the north and 8 St SW runs along the east side of Prairie Springs.  It’s a smaller community with a population of less than 2,000 people.  It’s built around a large park on larger lots.  Highlights include:

  • Single-family homes starting in the low $400,000s.
  • Connected to Airdrie’s 80 km of pathways.
  • Next to a natural wetland area.
  • Close to Airdrie Koinonia Christian School, A.E. Bowers, Ralph McCall and Nose Creek Elementary Schools.
