Cost-saving but cool technology in Airdrie homes

Would you embrace the latest in home technology if it would also save you money?  Even late adopters can get on board some nifty devices that will cost money now and save money down the road.  What makes it easier is that new home builders are incorporating fantastic new technology into their offerings in Airdrie.   Some may be flashy but some increase home efficiency and security.  Here are some things you can find in today’s modern new construction.

Automated Lights

At the top of the “hey this is cool” list are automated lights.  We’re not talking lighting just with motion sensors but lighting that can be programmed.  You can change the lights for different times of day, different activities in the home such as cooking in the kitchen, reading in the den or watching TV in the family room.  You can alter the lights to use 10 to 15% less power than the highest setting and in this way you’re saving energy without having to consciously thing about it.  How often to you manually dim the lights in your dining room and how often do you have to nag people to turn off lights in rooms that they’re not even using.

You can connect the indoor and outdoor lighting in your home to your home security system so they can be controlled remotely using a smartphone app.  And, there are still what now seem to be old-fashioned motion sensors.  A lot of people have them on outdoor lights but they are available for indoor use as well.

High-Tech Window Coverings

Open to let the sunshine in, close to keep the cold out.  Pretty simple but now technology will automatically raise and lower your blinds so you don’t have to think about it.

Climate Control

Programmable thermostat are so 90s but still so relevant.  Now your smart thermostat can sense a change in temperature in your home and will kick in with either hot or cold air.

Awash in New Tech

Any appliance that creates heat also zaps energy.  The dryer in your laundry room can take up 20% of your energy bill unless you counter-act it with something else.  For example, there’s a new dryer on the market that uses heat-pump technology.  Meaning, it will suck the moisture out of your clothes without the need for venting.  They use as much as 73% less energy and still dry clothes in what you would expect to be normal times.  Plus, not having to be vented outside eliminates the need for a potential leak of outside air trying to get into your house.

There are also dishwashers that are plumbed to the cold water supply, rather than the hot water.  The water is just heated internally by the dishwasher which is cheaper that using water from your tank.

Demand High Tech

Appliance manufacturers are working hard to create more energy –efficient machines.  You may like that chic stainless steel appliance package offered by new home builders, but make sure they are intelligent as well.
