Attraction Spotlight: Nose Creek Valley Museum

The Nose Creek Valley Museum is a collection of local history representing 100 years of photographs, artifacts and displays. To experience Airdrie’s history, the Nose Creek Valley Museum is the place to go. The museum offers their collection for the public to experience at your leisure. The museum is open all year and guided tours are available. Here is a look at what you will experience at the museum.

Visiting the Museum

To visit the museum, it’s only $2 for adults and free for children 12 and under. Guided tours are available for elementary school groups and to the general public. Hours vary depending on the season.

The museum is open September through May with hours Monday through Friday from 1pm-5pm and weekends from 1pm-4:30pm. in June through August, the museum is open Monday through Friday from 10am-5pm and weekends from 1pm-4:30pm.

The museum is located at 1701 Main Street SW in Airdrie which is at the south end of Nose Creek Park.

Exhibits

Upon visiting the museum, you will get to experience over 10,000 artifacts among several displays. The exhibits include:

  • The Blacksmith Shop
  • The Barbershop
  • The Wildlife Displays
  • The Settler’s Cabin
  • The 4-H Displays
  • The General Store
  • The First Nation’s Display
  • Memorabilia from WWI and WWII
  • One of the largest arrowhead collections in all of Canada
  • The Antique Cars and Farm Machinery

The museum has been open since 1988 to visitors. The collection grew from 1988 to 1993 massively that the museum had to add an extension on to the building in order to display all of the additional artifacts.

Visitors can enjoy the museum gift shop in which they can purchase souvenirs, local history books, postcards and pins. There is also a tourist information centre inside to give guests information on places to visit in the area.

Events

Throughout the year, the museum hosts events. There is a Monthly Tea day on the last Thursday of each month for museum members. You are welcome to bring guests to enjoy the museum and converse over tea. There is also an annual general meeting. Guests can also rent out the meeting rooms for baby showers, board meetings and any other needs.

The Nose Creek Museum is a great place to visit to experience the history of Airdrie.
