Airdrie Skating Club is a non-profit club in Canada that works with Skate Canada in providing quality skating programs to the community. There are 12 directors, an administrator and a coach rep along with a strong volunteer base. Their mission is to bring personal development, enjoyment and achievement to members through their skating programs.

Skate Canada is also committed to helping build personal development through skating for a lifetime of fitness, fun and achievement. Here is a look at the Airdrie Skating Club’s programs, events, member information and more.

About Airdrie Skating Club

The Airdrie Skating Club has been teaching children in the area for 36 years. Due to being in business so long, the club often sees former skater’s children entering their programs. They rely on the help of volunteers. They are the only sanctioned Skate Canada Club in Airdrie and strive to meet their guidelines to offer a fun and safe environment to teach skating to kids.

Member Info

The program accepts children starting at 4 years old. All children start in the Pre-CanSkate Program unless they are 8 years and older which would move them to the higher level CanSkate program. Skaters are always evaluated by coaches to determine the right level for them. Lessons for CanSkate and CanPowerSkate/Pre-Hockey started in October for the 2014-2015 season.

There are various programs depending on age and ability. Some of the programs include the Parent and Tot program, CanPowerSkate, CanSkate and Pre-Hockey. Children need either figure skates or hockey skates, a proper fitting CSA approved hockey helmet, warm jacket and mittens, ski pants and warm clothing. The members skate at the Plainsmen Arena at 320 Centre Avenue in Airdrie. The arena is on the west side of Airdrie and parking is at the north side of the building.

Fundraising & Events

Fundraising helps keep the programs more affordable. There are fundraising events held to raise funds for the club as a whole and they expect participation by club families. Along with fundraising events, there are special events like conditioning camps and pick up ice for extra ice time.

The Airdrie Skating Club is a great program for the community.
