6 Great Airdrie Restaurants

Airdrie is a smaller centre with big amenities.  Just 20 minutes north of Calgary, the City of Airdrie boasts some fairly prolific eateries both downtown and around the newer communities.  Here are the Top 6 as ranked by Trip Advisor.

Paros on Main – 113 Main Street N.

This Mediterranean favourite is in the heart of downtown and has over 100 excellent reviews and has been serving Airdrie for more than decade.  It offers a quick and affordable menu for lunch with many items under $11.  Greek specialties such as Saganaki, Calamari and Souvlaki.  In the evening, enjoy authentic Greek music with dancing and live entertainment Friday and Saturday nights.  Reservations are highly recommended.

The Canadian Brewhouse – 130 Sierra Springs Dr SE

This Canadian favourite is located west of the highway and south of Yankee Valley Blvd in the Sierra Springs commercial district.  Perfect to walk over for residents of nearby Waterstone.  The menu has typical pub food with gluten-free options. It’s Airdrie’s top spot to meet for drinks and wings while catching a game on the big screen.  Ranked highest by couples followed by families who enjoy the atmosphere and great service.  This restaurant is a chain but the excellent local experience brings people back time and time again.  Open until 2:00 am daily and kids can stay until 8:00 pm.

Abe’s Restaurant – 30 Market Blvd SE

Billing themselves as a “modern diner”, Abe’s is now open for breakfast every day and received an excellent rating from CBC Radio’s John Gilchrist.  It’s also won several Reader’s Choice awards for Best Lunch, Best Burger and Best Fries.  Sounds like you can’t go wrong here. Abe’s has a smartphone app that allows you to order off the menu anywhere and they’ll text you when it’s ready.  Fresh, local home-style food at reasonable prices is their claim to fame.  Located in Kingsview Market east of the highway, in the Airdrie community of King’s Heights.

Tacos Puerto Vallarta – 521 – 3 Ave NE

This out of the way Mexican restaurant is in The Village north and east of downtown Airdrie.  Sometimes restaurants that are off the beaten track can be real gems and many reviewers on Trip Advisor say not to let the location deter you from trying it out. Ranked at #4 for Airdrie restaurants, it has all the usual Mexican dishes. The food is fresh and authentic. The enchiladas seem to get high praise and the home-made guacamole gets a lot of attention. The service is friendly.

Hayloft Restaurant – 403 MacKenzie Way SW

This restaurant is located in the Creekside Village area of Airdrie just west of downtown.  It’s the perfect spot for people who are buying a home in the Midtown development. It’s a middle-upper end sort of restaurant that serves Lunch, Dinner, Afternoon Tea and has an extensive dessert menu.  They can also suggest wine pairings with your meal.  The name is inspired by the city’s farming history where a hayloft both served as storage for livestock feed and bedding and as a fun place to play as a kid. The restaurant is independently owned and strives to be a spot where family and friends gather.  The service over lunch is quick.  A leisurely dinner for two with wine is in the $100 range.

Il Forno – 2914 Kingsview Blvd SE

This is another restaurant in the King’s Heights area.  We have Greek, Mexican, Canadian-inspired and so Italian just has to be on the list.  It’s described as traditional Italian with live music on the weekend.  Reviewers warn that Il Forno gets very busy so best to call ahead or arrive early.  Spaghetti and meatballs and stuffed cannelloni are the must-haves but be forewarned – if pizza is the only Italian dish you or your family craves, you won’t find it at this restaurant.  Sal is the proprietor of this #6 restaurant in Airdrie.
